A WishNudge guide
V60 or AeroPress?
Pour-over, a manual press, or a refill for the setup they already love.
One question before you buy
“Would you use a pour-over, a manual press, or a refill for the brewer you already love?”
Loving coffee is the starting point. The next clue is the routine they want to use. The Hario V60 02 plastic dripper suits a wanted pour-over setup; the AeroPress Original is a chamber-and-plunger option. We have not tested them side by side and do not rank flavor, ease of use or current value.

Hario V60 Plastic Coffee Dripper, 02, Clear
Hario V60 Plastic Coffee Dripper, 02, Clear
Consider it if: They have said they want to try manual pour-over, and you can check what else their setup needs.

Skip it if: They want push-button convenience, already have a dripper they enjoy, or have not shown an interest in changing their routine.
Check before buying: Confirm the exact variant, compatible filters, the cup or server it will sit on, and any accessories needed. Check the total checkout cost against your budget. This is one dripper, not a full kit; confirm compatible filters, cup or server fit, contents and the full cost of accessories.

AeroPress Original Coffee Press
AeroPress Original Coffee Press
Consider it if: They enjoy adjusting their own brewing routine and want a manual brewer for individual cups.

Skip it if: They need push-button convenience, want a traditional espresso machine, or usually make several cups together.
Check before buying: Confirm the Original model, included accessories, compatible filters and a suitable mug. Factor any grinder or kettle they still need into the total budget.

Hario V60 02 Paper Filters, White, 100 Count
Hario V60 02 Paper Filters, White, 100 Count
Consider it if: You have checked that they use a compatible V60 02 and welcome a refill of the filters they already need.

Skip it if: They use another size, a flat-bottom brewer, or a reusable filter they prefer.
Check before buying: Match the size 02 and cone shape to the actual dripper. Confirm the white, 100-count package and total checkout cost; a similar-looking filter can still be the wrong fit.

Picture their ordinary morning
Imagine choosing a beautiful brewer, then discovering that their counter already holds one they love. The more useful clue is what they want to do next: learn pour-over, use a manual press, or keep a familiar setup supplied. The V60 02 is a pour-over dripper; the AeroPress Original uses a chamber and plunger. That format difference helps you choose a direction. It does not tell you which makes better-tasting coffee.
Match the filter to the exact brewer
The V60 02 needs a compatible size 02 cone filter. AeroPress identifies Standard-size filters for the Original. These are different filter systems; a V60 paper refill is not an AeroPress refill. Check the model already owned before buying paper, and check the exact package when buying a brewer. A familiar brand name does not confirm the right size or what the seller includes.
Count the complete setup, then keep the limit
A brewer price is only one part of the decision. Check the coffee, compatible filters, hot-water equipment and receiving mug or server that are already available. Include anything genuinely missing, tax and shipping in a total you are comfortable with. A grinder is a separate decision, not a required gift added by this comparison. Confirm the coffee preparation and equipment requirements in the manufacturer's instructions before buying another tool.
A refill or no new equipment can be the better decision
If someone already enjoys a V60 02, a wanted refill may support that routine without replacing it. If they already have an AeroPress or another brewer they like, ask what is actually missing. Neither option fits someone who wants an automatic machine or no additional equipment. Keep their storage space, cleanup preferences and confirmed exclusions in the decision. This comparison gives you two formats to examine; it does not require you to buy either one.
Common questions
Which one makes better-tasting coffee?
We have not brewed with these products or run a side-by-side test, so we cannot give a flavor winner. The useful difference here is the method you want to use. Confirm that preference first, then check the exact model, required equipment and current purchase terms. Manufacturer marketing claims are not our test results.
Can the V60 and AeroPress use the same paper filters?
Do not treat their filters as interchangeable. Hario's size 02 cone paper is for the compatible V60 02; AeroPress specifies Standard-size filters for the Original. Match the actual brewer and follow the manufacturer's instructions. This guide does not suggest modifying paper or using an improvised filter.
What should I check before choosing either brewer?
Check the exact model and package contents, suitable coffee and filters, hot-water equipment, receiving vessel and cleanup requirements. Follow the manufacturer's use and safety instructions. Count only genuinely missing equipment, plus tax and shipping, toward your total limit. If you do not know what they own or want, ask rather than guessing a complete setup.
