A WishNudge guide
A thoughtful gift within a real budget
Set the full spending limit before choosing the item.
Budget for the whole purchase
Choose a total amount you are comfortable spending, then leave room for tax, shipping and any packaging you actually need. A product price at the very top of your limit may leave no room for those extras. Treat the item price and the complete checkout total as different amounts, and confirm both before committing to a purchase.
Choose one clear purpose
A modest gift does not need several add-ons to feel complete. Think of one reason it suits the person: something they use, an interest they mentioned, or an activity you can enjoy together. Compare options that serve that purpose instead of continually raising the budget when a more expensive suggestion appears.
Keep the constraint
If nothing suitable fits, change the type of gift or take more time rather than treating the budget as a failure. A note, a planned outing or another non-purchase gesture may be appropriate. For a physical item, check the total on the merchant's checkout page before paying. Avoid assuming discounts, free shipping or return eligibility unless the seller confirms them.
Before you choose
- Set a total, including tax and delivery.
- Pick one meaningful purpose.
- Change direction before increasing your limit.
